Does a point make a sound?
Welcome to Media Measures: POINT. Come see a dancer’s body floating between points of tension, hear a passage of time counted in falling nails and electronic tap shoes beats.

Media Measures proposes a new route into the wonders of sound art open for curious listeners of all backgrounds and disciplines. Join a journey described in geometrical terms, a parallel to discover and understand sonic experiences out of the ordinary.

After the successful Circle Methods event at the end of 2024, we are thrilled to present this new event, focused on the notion of a POINT.

KIM KHAN’s electronic music merges synths with vocals and tap shoes. The tempo of tapping renews itself and searches for the constant point in the noisy chaos. During Conner Chew’s performance Only My Head Is Left To Slide Around, we will collectively create a choreography stretched in time, testing the relation between the performer, the viewer and points of spatial connection. Puck Wacki is reworking the western idea of time in her performative installation Ticking Shadows. Her instrument juxtaposes the present moment and the thrill of anticipation.

KIM KHAN is a shapeshifting musician. In his genre-bending performance he uses tap shoes, throat singing, bass, flute, costume and spoken word. He appreciates nuances of formal musicality that he experimentally applies to spiritual whims and ritualistic resonances in unconventional settings.

Untitled
KIM will perform an eclectic electronic music performance reflecting on the theme of POINT. He will combine the tap shoes beats and electronic tunes and counteract it with a whimsical Hulusi flute in a noisy, club-spirited show.

Ticking Shadows, Puck Wacki

Conner Chew is an American performance artist based in Den Haag. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School and is currently a dancer with Netherlands Dans Theater II. In his performance he desires to feel every hesitant touch, every careless swing, or the gentlest caress.

Only My Head Is Left to Slide Around
Conner’s work is a performative installation where his body becomes a medium of interaction between audience members. He positions himself in an unconventional spatial setup, testing what is possible when the performer is led by the audience’s guidance.

In her artistic practice Puck Wacki questions the human perception of human-made systems and machines, such as time. Through sound and poetic installations she examines the tension between the spiritual and the technical.

Ticking Shadows
Ticking Shadows is a self-played instrument and an installation translating binary data into graphical notation. Time slows down as wax melts, leading the audience into ambiental silence interrupted by loud metallic noises.

Conner Chew’s piece Only My Head Is Left to Slide Around has received support from Netherlands Dans Theater and Quirine Racké and Helena Muskens.

Media Measures:POINT is presented by iii with financial support from Creative Industries Fund NL and The Municipality of The Hague.
