During the Venice Biennale Opening Week iii participates in the project presentation of The Beauty of Proximity: Sensing the Wadden Sea with artist Sophia Bulgakova representing The Netherlands, curated by Anastasia Loginova.
Sophia Bulgakova (born 1997, Odessa, Ukraine) is an ArtScientist and interdisciplinary artist currently based in The Hague, the Netherlands. Sophia is working on the intersection between art, technology, and society, focusing on the relationship between light, perception, and imagination.
The Beauty of Proximity: Sensing the Wadden Sea is a trilateral collaboration between ARTPORT_making waves and iii, curated by Anne-Marie Melster and Anastasia Loginova in partnership with the World Heritage Center Wadden Sea (WEC) delivered by the artist Sophia Bulgakova in The Netherlands.
Further artists of the trilateral WE ARE OCEAN Wadden Sea program are, artist Insa Winkler in Germany, and artist Tue Greenfort (curated by Julia Moritz) in Denmark. The program will be hosted at the historical headquarters of CNR-ISMAR on Riva dei Sette Martiri Venice through a partnership with CNR-ISMAR (the Italian Research Council and Marine Science Institute).
This project is part of the WE ARE OCEAN Global Program which is endorsed by UNESCO as a UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development Action until 2030. The international collaboration between iii and ARTPORT_making waves is supported by the Creative Industries Fund NL.
