The Mondriaan Fund organises the ‘Prospects’ exhibition each year to give the visibility of starting artists an extra boost. Due to the proximity of Art Rotterdam, art professionals and collectors, but also a wide group of interested parties, have the opportunity to become acquainted with the work of these promising artists.
Lauren Jetty will be premiering a new work ‘Celtic Rainforest’ as part of ‘Prospects’. Together with others, Lauren planted hundreds of trees as a tribute to a loved one who died in a traffic incident: Joseph’s Wood, located in rural Wales. While working she became aware of all of the connections and communications within the environment: the language of the earth is not one of words but of unlimited observable and unobservable transmissions. ‘Celtic Rainforest’ is a nod to these alternate forms of communication through vibrations, sounds and smells. The installation exists of subwoofer drivers under containers, the drivers play sounds that agitate the scents within the containers, creating patterns and connections. The sounds and odors come from the woodland, they mimic the transmissions in a way that humans can percieve.
