Myra works with multimedia performance, electroacoustic instrument building and vocal practices. Her work explores the interactions between the body and its extensions in space, technologies, and other individuals. In her recent works she explores how multidisciplinary processes can be a way of community care. She seeks to understand how live performances and the shared experience of undergoing a creative process as a collective can bring people together.
“I am excited to further develop my musical instrument for the ‘Second Breath’ performance. This is a performance piece that delves into the physicality of sound as it emerges from the human body through breathing. The performers wear an instrument that shapes around their chest as an extension of their lungs. A wearable lung to capture breath and hold it as a resonating space for sound. During my recent graduation project, I created an instrument using latex balloons. My focus in this project was mostly on the concept, composition and community development of all participating performers. As a result, the material research is an aspect of my work that I would like to develop further. Now, I aim to explore other materials and their impact on the sound, while maintaining the instrument’s accessibility and DIY nature.”
‘Second Breath’ is supported by performers: Wouter Mol, Charlotte Roshka, Tara Pasveer, Lisa Frederiks and Julien Gouweleeuw.
