We believe that art, in conversation with science and nature, can make the abstract visible and help us understand our place in the world. We use experience as an instrument: sometimes as a slap in the face, sometimes as an indefinable gut feeling. Twilight believes in the value of the other perspective, in the other view, in the greatest daydream. It is precisely there that we find each other and other ideas to better understand the world. We do this through encounter, as the core of the festival. Not only with the audience, but also with makers. In the Twilight lab, scientists meet the makers and discuss the most urgent research. This inspiration is used in the development of the artworks that are specially made for the festival.

Chemical calls of care

After the long anthropogenic era full of negligence towards the environment, there are many people that started to take action against those extractivist attitudes long ago, attempting to generate horizontal relations with the biosphere based on respect. In that line, Chemical calls of care is an installation that presents a system to try to establish audio-chemical communication with the non-human, in this case with some plants and elements from the Goeffertpark in Nijmejen.

The work will present an arrangement of flexible tubes and fans that will bring smells of the Goffertpark into the installation space. Using the same method in reverse will send chemical messages to the outside. Gas sensors at both places will provide data from the composition of the air that will be translated into sound, therefore performing sono-chemical calls in a language that might be easier to understand by various unalike species.
