Radio WORM and iii are excited to announce a new collaborative series: a monthly, hour-long moderated conversation between an artist and a scientist. Going back to the roots of ArtScience, the artist’s topic of interest will be explored from a new angle in conversation with an expert related to the artist’s field, with the help of one of Radio WORM’s regular hosts.

In Episode 1 we meet artist Martin Toloku and scientist Dr Jordan Boyle. 

Martin, current iii resident, is an interdisciplinary artist with an interest in the memories that objects possess, and has used termites as ‘collaborators’ in his work. Jordan, Assistant Professor at TU Delft, has done research into termites with the approach of swarm intelligence and robots.

The two are brought together in conversation by Ege Şahin, composer, improvisor, sound artist, and longtime Radio WORM crew. Ege asks what research means for both in their respective fields, and what they might have in common when studying and working with non-human collaborators over a long period, and how they deploy their valuable observations in new projects.
