Instrument Inventors Initiative (iii) is an international, artist-run collective with a workspace in Moerwijk. Our artists make experimental music with instruments they have invented themselves. With these, all senses are engaged. We perform, create exhibitions and offer workshops. Schools and people from the neighbourhood are actively involved in this.
Creativity knows no bounds. Anyone who is open to it, can make art. This is our chief principle when we work with young people. They discover their own creative powers and become inventors and makers themselves.
We are open to everything, nothing is too crazy for us! We fuel imagination to perceive music and instruments in new ways. Every idea is valuable. Our workshops are suitable for all school types and school years within po and vo. Together with students we make a design, we build an instrument and discover what we can do with it. For example the Graphite Synthesizer, an electronic instrument that can convert drawings into sound.
During our workshops and guided tours, a new world opens up to students. They participate in an activity they haven’t done before, make music with unfamiliar instruments or create instruments themselves. iii collaborates with different types of artists, in particular from the fields of media art and digital art. Young people find it ‘cool’ to see that you can make art with modern media. Students can then discover the power of creating something by themselves. This is a valuable insight to have in school as well as for the rest of their lives.
