Amos Peled will be presenting his work Phantom Limb commissioned by iii at Future Health Expo in collaboration with Residenties in Utrecht.
Phantom Limb is a project exploring the enigmatic and poetic relationship between a human being and the black box that is their interior through the use of a medical ultrasound machine. Amos Peled has been developing methods to perform audio-visual manipulations which transform the ultrasound machine into an instrument that illuminates the inside of the body and expands the space of the artistic act into the organs, under the skin. The work investigates conceptions such as the distance of the human body from the self, the hierarchical relationship between the inside and the outside, pain as a poetic message and the lack of internal symmetry.
At Future Health Expo designers and artists tilt your view on (mental) health and present an alternative to wellbeing. Eleven young designers and artists from HKU – one student, nine alumni and a guest artist – tilt our view on (mental) health with installations, performances and interactive work. They turn themselves, mankind, but also nature inside out by means of echo selfies, introspection, soul painting, cuddly insects and a monument for micro-organisms. And present an alternative to well-being.
HKU has been designated by the EU as a European leader in the field of health innovation. And, using the imagination of the artist, it investigates questions such as: what is health, how do we ensure a fair distribution of well-being, what does a healthy living environment mean and how do we safeguard not only the well-being of humans, but also that of all other life on earth?
