A walk-in space to work on creative technologies together + a demo on how to power a light using soil, seawater or potatoes!

From 17:15 to 18:00, Christy Westhovens will give a short demo on how to power LEDs using soil, seawater, potatoes, or any other materials you’d like to transform into a battery.

The rest of the workshop is open and flexible—feel free to walk in and out. This is a space for anyone interested in working creatively with technology. Bring your ideas, questions, or projects related to electronics, sensors, bio-hacking, machine-building, AI, or anything similar.

We’ll have some microcontrollers and sensors available for you to try out. You’re also more then welcome to bring your own equipment. Use this time to work on your project alongside others. If you’re stuck or don’t know where to start, come by! Have a drink, see what others are working on, get advice, or chat with the workshop facilitator.

Let’s brainstorm and problem-solve together!

More from Christy Westhovens

“Hi! 🙂 I’m Christy and I’m active as an artist and fulltime nerd (is that a title??), but you will find me speaking and teaching now and then as well. My interest lies with the everyday electronics and software we use, and how these tools shape our interactions with our environment and each other. The developments we see in our digital and technological means are focused on consumption, data extraction, profit maximalisation and political discourse. Investigating our tools, hacking them, repairing them, personalising them, and building new ones is an empowering (and fun!) practice. This makes us question how they function and therefore explore our actual needs. From making a kind and caring webbrowser, to making your own batteries, to hacking your coffee machine to deliver at sunset, to … . I love to facilitate these investigations. Let’s come together and think and dream and build!

Things I can possibly help you with; electronics (circuit boards, sensors, arduino, ESP’s, raspberry pi, …), programming (python, arduino, …), basic web stuff (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, web extensions), software (TouchDesigner, Fusion360, slicers, …) and otherwise, feel free to challenge me :)”

Coffee and tech is presented by iii with financial support from Creative Industries Fund NL and The Municipality of The Hague.
