Is it possible to design and build more durable instruments and art installations? In this workshop, we will try to answer this question by exploring together the ECO NIME WIKI, which is an online resource developed by the New Interfaces for Musical Expression research community, aimed to provide artists and instruments designers with notions about sustainable practices that can be embedded in their work, with particular attention to digital fabrication and IoT-based projects.

The main driver of the ECO NIME wiki is to reinforce the longevity of a project by adopting open-source tools and methodologies.

In the first half of this workshop, Nicolò will present the various pages that form the wiki at its current state. In the second half, we will discuss collectively if and how those practices can intersect with everyday artistic practices.

This workshop is especially for people who have a practice of designing and building multimedia art pieces and musical instruments.

Optional to bring:

– Experiences, ideas, and physical prototypes / instruments are more than welcome as they will enrich the discussion

Please email Yun at yun@instrumentinventors.org if you have any questions

The workshop is part of a research project carried on by the Center for Computational Sonology of Padua in collaboration with iii

This workshop is presented by iii with financial support from Creative Industries Fund NL and The Municipality of The Hague.
