This Flipchart edition explores where artists find their inspiration. We are not looking for answers during this event, rather untangling the space between 3 very different approaches.

The resident Kathy Hinde will present her fascination with nature through a prototype of an instrument that explores magnetic sensing and the weather in space through movement. Carolijn Terwindt’s film is a negotiator between more-than-humans and the collective trauma of the destruction of the earth. The instrument of Jim Zweerts mediates between algorithmic processes vs meticulous handcraft in immersive soundscapes and experimental club music.
Curated by Leon Lapa Pereira.
Kathy Hinde is an audiovisual artist inspired by behaviours and phenomena found in nature and the everyday. Composed of hand-made objects, electronics and a blend of digital and analogue systems, her work represents a cross between kinetic sound sculptures and newly invented instruments.
During her residency she will delve deeper into scientific research around magnetic sensing, space weather and quantum physics. She will be sharing a prototype of an instrument that will provide the basis for her audiovisual performance, Magento Receptor.
Dr. Carolijn Terwindt is a lawyer, cultural anthropologist, author, and artistic explorer. She has been involved in worker’s rights as well as the participation of nonhumans in politics. In her artistic practice, Carolijn writes poetry, paints and plays violin, enjoying improvisation and jamming across different musical genres.
During her performance at Flipchart, Carolijn will explore the interconnections between personal trauma from complex and intergenerational family histories and collective trauma of the destruction of the earth, while being aware of different positionalities and the specific trauma of those suffering from climate injustice. This will include poetry and violin improvisation. The short film Free Pass which Carolijn made together with Indian filmmakers Jayraj Patil and Nirmika A will be shown
Jim Zweerts creates immersive soundscapes and experimental club music, but also collaborates with professionals from a wide range of fields. Playing with the symbiosis of contrasting elements and approaches towards sound: algorithmic processes vs meticulous handcraft, associative and club-oriented sounds vs abstract structures.
Through AI and generative algorithms, Zweerts delves into various aesthetics, including microscopic textures, imperfections, noise, and the suggestion of outer space. Zweerts will present a work in progress that manipulates the viewer’s expectations, providing room for individual interpretation and recognition of patterns.
