Flipchart stages works at the most exciting moment, before they are finished and presented at larger venues. Come with a sharp eye, careful ears and expect the unexpected!

In this Flipchart episode ‘Kosmetikos – Cosmic Conducting’ you will experience works that relate to conductivity. iii resident Ioana Vreme Moser will bring tactile experiments with the mineralogy of cosmetics – resonating the sound textures from within a lipstick; RE#SISTER, a community of women and non-binary artists, will present their Different Voices opera, researching the coexistence of chaos and structure and the fine harmony between the two; and lastly a project by our long time friends from CMHK (Hong Kong), who will send over a delegate artist to bring us an exciting still unknown work.

From a stick to a wig, from a splash to a clash; ‘Kosmetikos – Cosmic Conducting’ focuses on when sound becomes a conductive medium. Presenting local and international artists, we explore the process of conductivity, either by something non-material flowing between people, by electrons flowing through a semiconductor, or by questioning what conductivity means and how to extrapolate it from something physical – a moment in which philosophical questions emerge.

RE#SISTER is a community of women and non-binary artists, musicians and experimentalists who regularly come together in and around the electronic music studio of WORM, Rotterdam, to make music together, support and learn from each other. Several new musical projects evolved from this initiative, which started in 2018. RE#SISTER is about exchange, empowerment and interaction, about making and thinking about experimental music.

The project Different Voices is a contemporary opera performance with around 20 artists from RE#SISTER. The themes explored in Different Voices are the coexistence of chaos and structure, and the fine harmony between these two. Using electronic sound instruments our performers will offer a live performance in a number of acts that question the principle (in physics) of entropy, the principle (in electronics) of resistance, friction and resistance (in politics) leading to change, and of chaos (in language) ultimately resulting in beauty.

In a weekly radio show for Radio WORM, RE#SISTER Radio highlights female and non-binary musicians, and fresh recordings of spontaneous sessions in the studio.

Ioana Vreme Moser uses rough electronic processes to obtain different materialities of sound. She places fluidic and electrical currents in situations of interaction with her body, minerals, lost and found items, and environmental stimuli. From these collisions, sounds emerge to carry personal narrations and observations on the history of electronics, their production chains, wastelands, and toxicological entanglements in the natural world.

A lipstick takes the shape and materiality of a bullet, sometimes made of Radium, sometimes with lead all the way through. Found in early radio experiments and now in our computing devices, these heavy metals spread slowly from our lips to our computers. Arsenic Ballerinas sets an inquiry to find the technological entanglements between cosmetics and the development of the semiconductor industry.
