Into The Great Wide Open, Vlieland

With the name ‘Komorebi’, Matteo Marangoni and Dieter Vandoren developed a swarm of artificial creatures that make music in response to the sun, clouds and shadows of trees moving in the wind. Komorebi is a Japanese word meaning “sunlight shining through trees”. The creatures together form an immersive sensory experience. The work suggests to us that “life” is not an exceptional property of organic life forms, but also a property of complex systems beyond biological life as we understand it.
The first version of Komorebi was originally developed for Into The Great Wide Open 2020.
Into The Great Wide Open is a festival on Vlieland. In the middle of nature on perhaps the most beautiful Wadden Island in the Netherlands. Surprising fringe programming, visual art, film, children’s activities and plenty of rest and space to enjoy them to the fullest.
