Phantom Limb exists as an installation as well as a performance, both will be part of Fiber Festival. Phantom Limb is a project that explores the enigmatic and poetic relationship between a human being and a black box that is our interior by transforming a medical ultrasound machine into an instrument. The medical machine is used to illuminate the inside of the body, and expand the space of the artistic act into the organs, under the skin. Amos Peled developed Phantom Limb with the support of iii, in collaboration with Rewire, Amare and Tetem.

What are the boundaries between bodies and the outside world? Visitors are invited to understand their environment in alternative ways, through the unconventional use of medical equipment to get a different sense of inner and outer bodily dimensions. The exhibition Outer/Body – open for one long weekend at Door Open Space – presents seven artworks by multidisciplinary artists who give their own perspective on a wide range of questions related to the interaction between bodies and their environment.

In the performance Amos revisits memories of time spent in the seeming stillness of healthcare centres, investigating conceptions such as the distance of the human body from the self, the hierarchical relationship between the inside and the outside, pain as a poetic message, and the lack of internal symmetry. On Sunday, June 2, Amos will perform as part of the focus day on sound art from the Netherlands and Belgium.
