Gabey Tjon a Tham’s kinetic installation Red Horizon will be part of the group exhibition ‘Still Processing’ at NXT Museum in Amsterdam, The exhibition explores how people and technology translate data into meaning. How do we navigate between the rational and the emotional? The exhibition explores the flattening of images, the mental imprints left by watching moving light, and how AI evolves digitally created worlds and characters. Curated by Bogomir Doringer.

Red Horizon is a dynamic swarm of light and sound appear from 15 double pendulums, each equipped with white lights and speakers. They hum as they spin, drawing unpredictable movements, always populating the wall with visual patterns depicting chaos and precision. Red Horizon draws inspiration from the collective behaviour of swarms in nature—where simple rules can give rise to complex, emerging patterns.

If you watch long enough, you will notice lingering afterimages on your retina—blue and purple traces still perceived in the mind. They might follow you as you walk through the exhibition, but don’t worry, they will eventually vanish.
