with Eva van der Zand and Jeanine Verloop
Tickets: €80/€60* (scroll to bottom for more info)*
“Sounds of Glass” is a workshop designed to explore the intersection of glass and sound. It includes a lecture on various artists who work with glass, reflecting on the qualities of this fluid, transparent, and fragile material. Participants will learn about different qualities of glass, such as its sharpness, heat, breath, and the air involved in glass blowing, as well as the ways glass can enhance and grow in artistic expression.
Participants will select their own glass materials, learn about necessary tools, and practice safety and protection measures. Guided by these principles, they will engage in designing and making their own glass instruments.
This workshop is suitable for anyone wanting to experiment with glass and sound. Participants will leave with their own handcrafted glass instruments and experimental creations!
About Eva van der Zand
Eva van der Zand sees fragility everywhere around her; in the landscape, in organisms, and in humans. This attraction to fragility drew her to glass as a material. Her work includes 4D creations using various media, but her main focus is on glass art, especially glass blowing. She develops workshops, educational programs, and exhibitions, and started an artistic research location named The Moraine, where she offers a place for artists and designers to participate in residencies, reflect, and find new inspiration.
About Jeanine Verloop
Jeanine is interested in the ways in which technology shapes, expands and limits our imagination. In a world where technology is increasingly driven by invisible algorithms and the devices around us all have the same tablet shape, she looks for counterparts. She makes machines that are radically different, that bring back a bit of magic and make people wonder about the purpose of the machine. We often view machines as powerful and indestructible, she wants to subvert this notion by embracing vulnerability, malfunction and destruction.
