Soyun Park & Inwoo Jung

Soyun Park & Inwoo Jung

Soyun Park is a multidisciplinary artist and designer living in The Hague. She is interested in the question of how technology influences human functioning, from the individual level (physical movement and relationships) to the social level (architecture and politics). Often in collaboration with sound artists, her work takes the shape of videos, installations, and audiovisual performances. By making use of new media and technology, her work investigates the border between the digital world and reality, which is getting thinner every day. She is also a founder of a community based studio RGBdog. She has exhibited and performed at media art festivals, cultural venues and educational institutes, including for example Nederland Fotomuseum (NL), Ars Electronica (AT), CTM Festival (DE), and iii workspace (NL).

Inwoo Jung (KR), a Cologne based interdisciplinary artist, uses sound as a narrative medium. Tone painting as Jung’s stylistic means of storytelling creates synesthesia with nonverbal linguistic tone. Collaging various natural/artificial materials, he explores new cultural codes occurred in between.
Wellsgoodness, Jung’s heteronym project, deals with the real of realms beyond consciousness: dream, fantasy, and the sense of material/memory.

Over the course of their residency at iii Soyun Park and Wellsgoodness will produce their project ‘Fantasia Realism’. Fantasia Realism is an audio-visual live performance experimenting with surrealistic experiences through the use of Artificial Intelligence.  Drawing on the methodology of early 20th century surrealist artists, who used non-linear narratives as a way to explore pure unconsciousness, Soyun Park will use AI to develop the script of the performance using reality-based input words.

“Investigating the roles of artists in performing arts when there is ‘Automatisme’ driven by AI is one of the topics we would like to explore. By using Automatism of AI and stream of consciousness, we draw morality and taboo. How can morality be sensed and sensored from the search results by AI? Morality doesn’t seem to matter when exploring the purity of the unconscious. “

Soyun Park and Inwoo Jung will develop ‘Fantasia Realism’ at iii workspace from March 10 to April 10 2022.

iii’s residency program is made possible through the support of Creative Industries Fund NL and the Creative Europe program of the European Union. Fantasia Realism is also supported by Arts Council Korea.
