Lampyridae at Musical Utopias

Musical Utopias
December 20-21, 2018
Korzo Theatre, The Hague

Matteo Marangoni and Dieter Vandoren will be presenting Lampyridae at Musical Utopias.

Taking their name from the scientific denomination of the family of the fireflies, the Lampyridae are artificial creatures which communicate between each other through light and sound. Each creature behaves autonomously following the same rules. Together they form a swarm of pulsing entities, generating changing patterns that evolve through space and time.

At Korzo theatre on occasion of the program Musical Utopias we present a new composition inspired by the experience of attending concerts employing the sound spatialization technique known as Wave Field Synthesis. The visitor is invited to enter a circular parliament in which 30 artificial creatures exercise self-government.
