Via an open call, Rafaele Andrade selected three musicians to help her explore Knurl, the instrument she designed and created. Can four Knurls go together? What happens when multiple intelligent instruments encounter, how does their interplay sound?

During Gaudeamus Festival, the Knurl Quartet presented their work live for the first time, resulting in a journey of musical rediscovery, fostering a unique blend of sound and its movement.

The experience culminates in an immersive collaborative composition and embodied performance that intricately explores spatial dynamics, bodily connection, and the interwoven tapestry of Knurl players. Together, they breathe life into the future of intelligent musical expression.

Supported by Gaudeamus, Fonds Podiumkunsten and Instrument Inventors Initiative
