New Managing Director

New Managing Director

iii welcomes Ezequiel Menalled as new Managing Director

Statement from iii's executive board:

Statement from Ezequiel Menalled:

“Founded in 2013, iii has grown from a project-based organization, to an annually funded organization and since 2021 as a cultural organization within the 4-year funding program of the Creative Industry Fund NL and the City of The Hague, we have seen a large growth as an organization.

We now have a team of twelve people working on realizing our program with residencies and productions, hosted events, workshops, education, and the agency to distribute our projects.

At the end of 2022, founding chairman and program coordinator Matteo Marangoni announced that he wanted to take a step back from organizing within iii to focus on his artistic practice. This announcement brought us to consider how to further develop as an artist-run organization, while at the same time seeing that the role of coordinating the team might be a role that can not be combined with an active artistic career.

On March 28th, we published a call for a Managing Director. We received ten applications for the position; in a first round of interviews with the executive board, we interviewed five of the candidates. From these, we invited two persons to engage in a practical assignment with our team. We then evaluated with the team and members who of these two persons would be hired for the position. We were delighted by the number and quality of the applications, and our last meeting to make a decision was tough as both candidates made a good impression.

We are happy to welcome Ezequiel Menalled as our Managing Director, who started working with us from June 6th.”

“When I received the phone call offering the position at iii, I literally froze. The excitement paralyzed my body. Like in a dream, I was stepping at the verge and the next step would mean to jump to the unknown. It was a minimal fraction of time. I did not hesitate, I breathed, stepped forward and let myself go.

I have known iii from its foundation and witnessed its development. Through the years I have attended several events, performances, and installations. I greatly value the artistic diversity of its members. I feel aligned with the constant questioning of what we take for granted in an artistic event, often approached with humor rather than solemnity. I also value that the workspace functions as an incubator for local and international artists. Lastly, the fact that iii is an artist-run organization with horizontal and rotating roles is appealing for me.

I believe that the bringing together of Art, Science and Technology, is the fertile soil that keeps the roots of art in an experimental state and in constant expansion. Having the opportunity to lead such a diverse and creative organization presents itself like a dream come true and is perhaps the biggest professional challenge that I encountered so far. I will honor this position with dedication, care and creativity.”
