Chime explores the fragile and flexible nature of glass and sound. Through its movement, the kinetic sculpture constantly finds itself on the brink of self-destruction.
At the resonance frequency, the glass strings of Chime collide, producing a chorus of subtle sounds. By embracing fragility, malfunction, and destruction, the kinetic sculpture creates a mesmerising scenario that challenges existing conventions of glass as a material. Devoid of distinct boundaries, Chime seems to coexist with its surroundings.
Previous iii resident Jeanine Verloop creates multimedia and kinetic sculptures, currently with a focus on Borosilicate glass. Her work explores how technology expands, shapes, and limits imagination, offering an alternate reality where technology has taken a different path.
