Matters of Being is a screening program that presents experimental cinematic works by artists and independent filmmakers, and documentary films about artists, thinkers and scientists. The program opens new associations by exploring the medium of film and its borders. To question the rules of narration, visual language and the role of the artist, the program combines different works and the aspects of being they touch, such as belonging, the unknown and impermanence. Following the screenings, the works and associations they evoke are discussed among the participating artists and the audience. The conversations are moderated by Nele Brökelmann, curator, producer and moderator of the program. As an artist, writer and researcher, Nele is deeply intrigued by the human need for structures of meaning, the perpetual search for and fabrication of meaning.
