The Pendulum Instrument is a 4-meter tall electromagnetic string instrument. It stretches throughout the entire height of a room, suspended from the ceiling.
The instrument’s strings hang like pendulums, and are vibrated by electromagnetic forces. Under this magnetic influence, the strings create mesmerizing drones that fluctuate with their natural pendulum motions. It is experienced in a ritual setting, where the audience is invited to slow down and dive into a hypnotizing journey inside these massive, interweaving drones.
The Pendulum Instrument is a project conceived and developed by Mihalis Shammas. Co-produced by STUK (Leuven, BE) and Concertgebouw Brugge (BE), with the support of Stimuleringsfonds (NL) and FPK (NL).
