In the workshop Future Dance Testlab you get to try out the beta version of the video dance game—Future Dance of Nostalgia, developed by Kexin Hao, current artist in residency at iii, in collaboration with Leo Scarin, Ludmila Rodrigues, and Rachwill.

Future Dance of Nostalgia is a project that combines historiographic research, rhythmic choreography, work song, techno music and gaming. Taking the form of a dancing video game, the work invites visitors to perform a choreography based on gestures related to pre-industrial, heavy manual labour.

Through the gameplay, the project raises questions such as: How are our corporal moves translated and visualised through computational technology? How does that allow our body to be sensed, measured, qualified, and even controlled?

In this TestLab session the artist in residence shares the work in progress, along with collaborator and game developer Leo Scarin. He will show the techniques employed in the making of this game that includes real-time motion capture and analysis through which the scoring system of the game is built.

Future Dance Testlab invites you to be the first test subjects to experience the game and explore the technology. Your participation and feedback will contribute to the development and the enhancement of the game. It is time to press play!
