Louis Andriessen wrote De Staat as a reflection on the relationship between music and politics. In response to this, Gaudeamus, Musica Festival (Strasbourg), Asko|Schönberg, Ensemble Klang and Muziekgebouw invite seventeen very diverse European composers to write a text-based or graphic score on this theme. The scores will be shown to the public in an exhibition and some will be performed by musicians from Asko|Schönberg. iii members Cathy van Eck and Maya Verlaak will be contributing to the exhibition.

On the 8th September there will be a release concert of Maya Verlaak’s work Conditions, performed by Ensemble Klang. Interactive scores and musical puzzles lead to unique sonic encounters for performers and listeners.
