Studio 4 is a monthly concert series for electronic and electro-acoustic music associated with the Willem Twee Studios. This time with “Source Signals 2” by Kees Tazelaar and “Empty Chairs” by Cathy van Eck.

In Empty Chairs (2018) there are three chairs in different positions. A loudspeaker is attached to each seat and a microphone is placed in the middle of the room. A system of live recorded sounds, electronic sounds and sensors makes the chairs sound. A performer interacts with the chairs by moving them, placing them in new formations and trying out different positions. During Cathy’s lecture-performance she discusses the different musical methods with which she has composed the relationships between sounds and movements. Empty Chairs was commissioned by iii, and was partly created during a residency at iii in The Hague.
